KATHE TELINGATOR
PRODUCER/DIRECTOR
Kathe Telingator has long recognized both the power and importance of giving voice to stories that contribute to our understanding of human nature and life’s experiences and has spent her career focused on providing opportunities for those stories to be heard. Her proudest achievement in her nine years as a literary/theatrical agent in New York working with James Earl Jones, Horton Foote, and the Carl Sandburg estate, among others, was seeing the memoir Motherwit: An Alabama Midwife’s Story, by Onnie Lee Logan as told to Katherine Clark, published to great acclaim and widespread recognition in the late 1980s. Returning to Chicago in 1990, she worked for the Chicago International Film Festival for two seasons. In 1992, she founded the acclaimed series, Stories on Stage, featuring professional actors reading published works of fiction and non-fiction. Over the course of 18 years, she has produced more than 130 live performances of the series as well as more than 130 broadcasts, which aired weekly on Chicago Public Radio from 1993 through 2007.
Other experience includes producing special events for Lawyers for the Creative Arts, Chicago Public Radio, Women in Film, and the Chicago Humanities Festival. Her volunteer work has included spearheading a $400,000 fundraising campaign for and the creation of a new playground in Chicago, launching a children’s book collection project, which culminated in a donation of 1200 books to a Chicago Public School, serving on the advisory committee for the new Institute of Entrepreneurial Arts and co-chairing the Fine Arts Committee at LaSalle Language Academy, a Chicago Public Magnet School, and creating the arts residency program there. She served as a member of the documentary jury for the 2012 Chicago Children’s International Film Festival.
